It doesn't take much to pack.13:14:00
As I sit here smiling and thinking about this time next week I envisage a happy first night in a cheap motel with the kids and all our stuff packed in tightly, every crevice of space taken up in the back of the car.
Yep, that is right another family holiday is on the cards and this time we are scooting up north to enjoy the sun and sandy beaches of Noosa in QLD.
I cannot wait.
Cam is excited too. He used to go on holidays to Noosa every year as a kid up until he was twenty years old, so he gets to show me all of the old haunts from his childhood. The kids are also looking forward to seeing not only Cam's parents who are currently vanning there already, but their cousin and uncle and his girlfriend as well who are travelling from Mackay.
For me, packing for a holiday is a process. A meticulous, tick of the boxes, check, and check again process. I plan for everything and forget nothing. Now it is even more arduous as there are three little people to pack for as well, who I might add still require ‘spare clothes’ on top of the clothes. Its a bloody fricken nightmare.
Throw in to the mix that we are already living out of a suitcase and have hardly been at home the last five weeks as we have been house and farm sitting. Not only do I have to pack but we have to move all our stuff that has somehow made its way to the farm from our place in town, I have to do a big clean and tidy of the house at the farm, ideally I would like to do the same to ours before we go but I know that is NOT going to happen. Ill have to do a little bit of washing too and then...
Thats right, I have to pack all over again.
Thank goodness for wine thats all Im going to say!!
As Cam and I were discussing the ins and outs of the drive to Noosa for Tuesday and how I want to be home on Sunday night so that the organising and the packing can begin in earnest; He casually just throws in there that we’ll be surely right to come home on Monday as 'It doesn't take much to pack.'
HA!!!! It doesn't take much to pack.
To pack a pair of thongs, your footy shorts, two t shirts ,a jumper and your toothbrush. Yeah that is easy as.
He really has no idea. He has no idea.
The toiletries, the bottles, the formula, the dummies, the blankets, the food, the snacks, the nappies, the wipes and all that a nappy bag entails. Dont get me started!
Medicine, shoes, clothes, spare clothes, the toys, the cot, the pram. Oh my!!
Whilst I must say that I am getting better at packing over the last couple of years, travelling with only two suitcases for all of us is so much easier that one bag each. A am also less inclined now to pack things 'just in case' as there is just no room anymore. No matter, it still takes time and is not something that I can just muster an hour before we are expected to leave. If that was to occur, I would definitely forget something.
Calm and collected all the way is my method of madness.
I work in piles. I make piles of clothes for each person. A socks and jocks pile, pj pile, a pile for each outfit and then one for jumpers, one for shoes.
Then I add to each or some of the outfit piles. Other possible bottoms or tops that can mix and match for the duration of the holiday taking into consideration all the different types of weather.
I do this for me and each of the kids. Cam always just throws his stuff in at the end.
I do not have any compulsive disorders by the way, I think its just the teacher in me.
Then I do a toiletries haul, then the baby essentials and then I think of a few toys, books and DVD’s for the kids and not to forget the food.
See its already a process in my head. ha ha!!
As it is going to be warmer, I am very, very relieved knowing that its mostly going to be a few pairs of shorts and t shirts, a pair of jeans and our favourite jumpers. I will do washing while we are away and the kids will probably wear their bathers a lot so really, really, really; It shouldn’t take much to pack.
However I know myself and I know that it will take just a little bit of time to pack.
Its just does.
Maybe I should just get Cam to do it!!
How does packing for a holiday look at your place?
Do you have a routine, a method of madness?
Do you just chuck stuff in the suitcase and get the hell out of there?
Thanks for visiting today.
