A Garden Meander; Birchwood Gardens.21:02:00
I received an email from Camera Club the other day informing me of an open garden that was happening last weekend not far from our town.
Highlighted in this particular email was reference to a beautiful display of Dahlia's (ah-hem my favourite) and a collection of approximately 250 Salvia plants in all the colours of the rainbow.
Could I resist the lure of flowers and such wonder on a lovely Sunday afternoon?
I think not and it was just amazing.
The garden I speak of is called Birchwood. It is an acre of gardens that has been developed over the course of 27 years. The owners have worked very hard over the past decade making it especially suited to private functions and weddings. They host two open gardens each year which raise money for charity, one in Spring and of course this particular day in Autumn.
Lucky for me pictures do speak louder than words and here is a snap shot of what really did look like an oasis in desert. (See the last pic)
All around in the open paddocks beyond the garden fence was bare ground, patchy, brown and dry. Birchwood was lush and green with manicured lawns, bees buzzing, flowers in bloom with beautiful roses, colour and inspiration everywhere.
Oh my, the Dahlia's, did I mention the Dahlia's? ha ha!! The Dahlia's were spectacular and make me want to grow them even more now. Let's not forget those Salvia's though as they were pretty impressive too and thankfully for this novice gardener they are all very easy to grow.
Have you been to an open garden lately? Ever?
Do it and soon as Autumn is a brilliant time to be out in the garden.
Thanks for visiting today
