How Christmas is Looking in the Paddock22:14:00
Santa and his sleigh out at the farm.
Christmas is always such a great time of year for me and playing the Santa game especially this year has already been lots of fun. Im really just a kid at heart myself and I have very special memories. (I should write them all down as it would be a really good blog post next year.)
Whilst we have all the decorating and shopping and everything else in the lead up, it officially begins for me with church on Christmas Eve. Its always a really lovely service wherever I go and from a religious perspective it is peaceful, tranquil and a moment in time to ponder and think about all the good things in the world and in my own life that I can be grateful for. I pray and thank my lucky stars at just how blessed I am, especially after what has just happened in Sydney this week.
our sparkling tree...
As for the novel side of it all, well you could say I can get a little carried away on the Christmas cheer front. How can you not?
Do you call it 'material bombing'? All the trees down the main street have been wrapped in red and it looks great and makes me smile when I see them. It is a new thing this year and its the little things…You know what I mean?
Presents in all the trees down the main st. Hugh thinks its amazing!! I don't blame him. They are huuuuuuuge. We talk about what could be in them. Dinosaurs of course!
My mantle. Ahhhh…Hows the serenity? See the lovely Nativity scene? The kids just want to play with the animals but its off limits.
I am enjoying seeing the kids getting all excited about Santa and his arrival next week and the fact that we have another baby to spread all the excitement around with. Hugh and Edith are another year older and so much more switched on than last year. They watched the Grinch last weekend and they loved it so I have been checking all the channels to find other Christmas shows to watch. I have also been playing the old Santa bribery card a fair bit, especially for the incessant 'I want that' scenario every time we enter a shop. Its amazing how easy it works and for getting them onside for pretty much everything. Santa you handy old man you!!
one of my new tree decorations
I have especially loved decorating our house as well as putting a few things up at the farm to get into the Christmas spirit. My favourite find has been the nativity scene that I purchased from Aldi. (pictured above)
The tree that destroyed the cubby at the farm is now a star. I got a bit crafty and this is the end product. Do you know how lovely and smooth Spotted Gum is. Oh and the colour. Such lovely form. (now I sound like an arty farty there!) I even made another decoration for above the food table with it. It looks A-Mazing!!
Pinterest in action here at the farm with my pine cone garland strung along the mantle above the fire place. It was really fun making it and it looks great.
I have also been swooning over Pinterest at all the awesome decorating that others are doing. If only I had the time. My wreath making was the height of my creativity and I was very pleased with how they turned out.
I love this pic. Just saying! Wreath making in action in what was a lovely morning spent with some great friends.
My boys and Im not so sure they are into the wreath making caper. Though Hugh loved the glue gun.
Though minimal, my efforts do add quite a bit of Christmas cheer to the place but my favourite are the the lights on the Christmas tree at night. It just make everything perfect. You might have to head over to my Instagram for that shot...
Christmas this year will be spent out at the farm with all of Cam's family for lunch and then we are off on our annual trek down to the Surf Coast to Lorne and Aireys Inlet. I can't wait.
This weekend my parents and siblings are gathering here at ours and we are having our own family Christmas party together a week ahead. So you could say Christmas is starting early this year. Woop Woop!! Better get the glassware out...
Are all your plans for Christmas coming to fruition?
Are you looking forward to what I think is one of the best times of the year?
