The Windmill Paddock

Neighbourhood watch and bust.

Do you remember Mrs Mangel from the TV show neighbours?

Stickynose, stand at the window and watch all the neighbours, gossiper Mrs Mangel?

Between the lady across the road and myself Id say we have old Mrs Mangel covered in our neck of the woods, except for the hair and early 90's dress attire that is.  Here she is for old times sake in case you don't recall her face...

From my windows I can see a lot of what goes on out the front of my house. Its actually good for people watching which I love to do. I see when the postman drops my letters in the mailbox, when the train arrives at the station and its commuters pour out and charge past heading into town.
I gaze and ponder, looking out the window when Im sitting at the computer which is a lot of the time.  When Im feeding the baby whilst sitting on the couch, and even just reading books to the kids I can pretty well see everything outside.

As for my neighbour, well she is the same, just a different view as far as perspective goes. She is amazing and is just one of those ladies that just knows everything about everything, and then of course she tells me and we have quite the little session talking about stuff in the hood.

We live right next to this pub you see and unfortunately due to poor management on the owners behalf it has lay vacant for most part of this year which is sad as its such a nice old pub. So whenever any cars, budget rental vans, or the owner with his 'prospective' pub buyers have rocked up of late its in our vested interest that we (the neighbour and I) chat gossip about what we have seen and get excited about potential new pub operators perhaps preparing to open up again.

As it turns out old Mrs Mangel here must not have been paying proper attention to the goings on outside as only last week police raided the old pub only to uncover a drug syndicate at work turning the 21 hotel rooms into a marijuana growing factory.

Since February.... I know! What the??? Its been front page news here too.

So prime witness, old Mrs Mangel me had to make a statement to police about how Ive seen vans rocking up, the owner a few times, various cars, never a soul or person to be seen and never any lights or noise. I even mentioned to the sergeant how one day I was going to wait and see when someone was going to come out to the van that was parked and do the neighbourly thing and go and say Hi and meet the new publicans. Glad I didn't now. Who knows what could have happened!

Always seeing the best in people of course, I honestly I thought the vans were rocking up delivering hotel wares like linen and crockery and the like all in preparation for a big opening. Low and behold it was actually marijuana being loaded up into the vans and all the equipment one needs to set up a marijuana growing factory.
I am told there has been a caretaker in the pub since February and Ive never even seen them.

So the neighbour and I are in disbelief that we didn't uncover this secret operation sooner because like I said we can always see what is going on. Its really unbelievable actually. Laughable.

There is a moral to this story of course; That nothing is ever as it seems and that Mrs Mangel needs to invest in some serious survellience equipment if she wants to be the real deal in this neighbourhood watch biz. She might even have to get a sniffer dog.

In the meantime me and the neighbour will be plotting away with each other about what has happened. We have already made up some super endings to this story and ill have some face masks on the ready in case the pub goes up in an inferno.

Uncovered something juicy going down in your neck of the woods?
Do you get your Mrs Mangel on?

You will most likely find me either pottering out in the garden or out walking with the kids. I solve all the worlds problems over good wine and coffee. I dream of a huge island bench in my kitchen, a swimming pool and endless sunshine. Country living really is the best.
