Tales from Tarzali: Pruning 201408:05:00
We haven't stayed out at the farm for a few weeks so it was nice to get out in the fresh air yesterday morning with the kids for a walk. With gumboots on, stomping through the mud we headed out into the paddocks making our way to see what Cam and David were up to in the pruning stakes out in the vineyard.
The big job at the moment is preparing eight more rows of the Riesling vines for some more grafting of Shiraz later in the year, alongside this is the usual pruning and shaping that takes place on an annual basis.
Today's pruning involved cutting through and unwrapping twelve years of vine growth that has fused itself onto the wires. Not as easy at looks my friends. It took Cam and David about five hours between them to prune just one entire row, usually for the basic pruning it takes two hours and that's quick for a pro Cam tells me!!
The kids of course got hacking or helping which ever way you look at it and I took a few snaps.
...and then it all got a bit much after a late night so it was time to go back to the house.
Ever tried your hand at pruning in a vineyard?
