Around here lately: The long Weekend20:43:00
Playing with and digging up worms
So the Queen turned another year older this weekend.
Does anyone actually know what the real date is for her birthday?
Hmmmm. Me neither...It doesn't really matter though because we just had a three day weekend and for us it was lovely, sunny and very relaxing.
We were lucky to have my Mum and Dad up for two nights as well as a day tripping visit from my cousins Kiera and Fiona and the kids on Saturday. We have had brilliant weather each and every day and apart from a lovely lunch and afternoon at the park on Saturday it has pretty much been a chilling at home kind of weekend. Hugh and Edie have really enjoyed the weekend too and are absolutely buggered tonight, but seriously which kids wouldn't love a visit from their grandparents and cousins to boot?
We have been soaking up the warm rays of sunshine and pottering in the backyard. A few tinnies, reading some mags, a little shopping, Dad mowed the lawn and Mum did a awesome job of tidying up all the leaves and the rest out in the backyard. I put some strawberries into the patches to add to the mix and have been reading about growing a batch of Desiree potatoes. Its so nice to walk outside now when it looks so nice and neat and tidy again, so a big thanks to mumsie and Crazy (aka Dad) for that one.
Prior to the weekend you could say It has been quiet as far as blogging goes as you my have noticed. Besides the bathroom getting updated and my growing belly, there hasn't been really much to report. Well actually if you count a diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes something to report about than that is headlining here this week. Its not all doom and gloom, so don't fret as I am certainly not.
I have been off the sweet snacks, avoiding Tim Tams, lowering the carb intake and so far have been able to quite easily manage my blood glucose levels just fine. I had a scan the other day to check the size of the baby and all is good too. I am on track for another nine pounder it would seem but the baby is healthy and I feel good so you can't ask for more than that. I can't say I have been overly worried about the diagnosis but certainly have been much better with my eating as I do not at all want to risk any future complications for me or the baby....and my fingers hurt from the blood tests...Boohoo to me!
I have finally been through my stack of home and gardening magazines, ripping out pages of inspiration and ideas and filing them away for future reference. Does anyone else do that?
I have also been scouring Pinterest, the inter-webs and reading lots of other blogs which has given me a few nursery, decorating and craft project ideas.
I have been reading a lot about going greener on the chemical house cleaning front which has begun with mopping the floor with hot water and vinegar only. I have the oven to 'green' clean next and would love any Shannon Lush specialist out there for any tips please?
Generally though, I have just been stumbling upon interesting things to read out there in blogland. I think I might just have to share some of these favourites with you over the next week or so. If I get around to it that is.
I have the mammoth task of a proper clean out and sorting of the bathroom after the mini reno as well as the rest of the house which has been sitting idle, accumulating all sorts of mess and dirt that only kids can conjure. Sigh......
I learnt a new trick on the camera today too about exposure so Im pretty happy with myself knowing just that little more to getting nicely exposed photos on a bright and sunny day.
Here are a few before and after shots after the on-line lessons which Ill leave you with today.
I also want to ask you readers out there; I know you are there, what are some topics that you want to read here on the blog? My ideas are always changing about what i think i want to write about. What is going to attract readers here I guess in other words. I have a few post ideas coming up especially with the garden, but I need it to start growing a bit more before I can do that. In the meantime.....hit me up with some ideas. Whats already bringing you here? I know Im not shy am I? he he
Snow peas growing up and up and up.
Cute little garden tools from the Jamie Oliver range at Woolies
Hows the serenity? Our neat and tidy backyard.
Loving watching Hugh playing, digging up worms and watering. The above pic was my best one I thought after my little tutorial session. Exposure that!! All you camera pros out there, just let me revel in my improvements....
This is half of the Dahlia tuber collection I dug up from that huge red dahlia bush. Planning lots of colour next year out the front. Plenty to share around if anyone keen?
I purchased a plate. Thats right, a Maxwell Williams plate. I thought it would look alright hanging up in the kitchen. It got the tick of approval from my Collingwood supporter hubby. Yessss!
My third vintage mirror purchase over the weekend. So sweet. I think I still need a couple more though...
Wedding snaps up on the blog on Wednesday. I commissioned my cousin and she has come up with the goods and some lovely pictures to remember a really lovely day....Yes even though we were late.
Thanks for visiting today
